This is a picture I took of my three little boys jumping on my husband. I love this picture. We are a very happy family, we eat dinners and pray each night together. I love my husband with the depths of my very being, and i cherish the ground that my sons walk on. Don't get me wrong at one time or another I wanna freak out on my kids and tell my husband to go to hell. (I usually do.) I often yearn for the days of single life, strutting down city blocks, batting my eyes from across the room, and partying til the break of dawn. I really enjoyed that part of my life, but it is over. There is a whole breed of young married couples whom have found pleasure in weekend trips to the zoo and Chucky Cheese.
Than there is the rest of us. Those whom have accepted bling over substance, chosen career over family, and f#ck like bunnies for sport. How did we get here as a culture, when it is more common to parent a child through court appointed child support and visitation rights, than it is to actually dwell in the same home. Although, weekend visitations and child support court isn't ideal. It is a much better alternative that what has become the norm in urban communities throughout this country. Too many young women with compromised values are laying on their backs having babies they can't support, with young men whom have no work ethic, no real concept of manhood, or level of responsibility.
Their is a plague in the urban community of under-educated, dis-enfranchised babies having babies. We as Americans must honestly build a dialogue about this! If these young people had a solid family foundation, these problems would not exist at the rate that they do. Where I come from in the north-east the black family is so rare that people look at me and my family like aliens when where out in public. You think I'm crazy, ask yourself when is the last time you saw a The Huxtables(mother, father, children) out shopping at Target?
